The difference is that a fragrance oil is created in a lab, not in nature. The aroma can be pleasing, but the spiritual uplift will not occur. To me, essential oils have a delicate fragrance by comparison. Once you experience true aromatherapy, you will feel the difference in your response to the fragrance. Emotional responses are stored in the brain's limbic system, which is stimulated by smell. The sense of smell accesses the reticular system, which integrates mind and body and connects emotions with memories. When a bonding occurs with emotion, memory, and fragrance, it brings about an effective process of emotional and spiritual healing. An aroma is like a key that opens the lock to a smell memory.
